Excitedly, I get to announce a new publicly available demo that showcases our latest R&D efforts around Visual Fusion (our flagship product). TransporationWatch is the latest manifestation of Visual Fusion for data visualization, location intelligence, interactive maps, business intelligence 2.0, mashups, common operating pictures, executive dashboards, interactive intelligence, and geospatial [fill in the blank]… all the stuff we try to do well and try to put into a friendly, but powerful, package for business users and information workers.
This demo was built out on HTML 5, which represents a lot of milestones for us as a company. It’s the first app designed specifically to showcase Visual Fusion on a mobile device, it’s the first Visual Fusion app that runs on iPads, and it’s the third touch-enabled app we’ve created. Several years ago we developed an app for the TouchTable and more recently we developed an app for Microsoft’s Surface, which is currently in use at the Microsoft Global Security Operations Centers.
Specifically, Transportation Watch is a web app that invites the user to explore data sets used by government agencies in crisis response, situational awareness, and homeland security. This public version of data sources commonly used by government agencies presents a cross section of data, such as seaports, airports, current weather, historic hurricanes, and nautical charts. TransportationWatch also has a Silverlight counterpart for users without access to a touch-enabled device, and the application smartly determines which of the two versions to load based on the user’s browser.
The application is open to the public and available at: http://vfdemo.idvsolutions.com/transportation/ . Please go check it out, it’s a lot of fun.
