IDV Solutions helps ITU Track ICT Development
October 29, 2007

IDV Solutions and Microsoft today announced the launch of ITU Global View, an online map-based visualization to track and report implementation progress of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) goals in Africa, to be demonstrated at the Connect Africa Summit in Kigali.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Microsoft Corp. and IDV Solutions created the online visualization platform, ITU Global View, using IDV's Visual FusionTM software and Microsoft's Virtual Earth. Using Visual Fusion SuiteTM, ITU Global View integrates a broad range of new and existing data sources on global information and communication technologies (ICT) - visualizing telephone lines, mobile and broadband subscribers and internet users. The categories are thematically shaded according to subscriber/user ratio.

ITU Global View visualizes information sets, overlaid on the Virtual Earth base-map, such as; GSM cell phone coverage, optical fiber networks, population density, GDP per capita data, WSIS Stocktaking Projects, training centers, and African Union Regions throughout Africa with the ability to compare them with each other to analyze trends, progress and future development.

“IDV Solutions is committed to helping organizations in future growth and economic development through our Visual Fusion software,” said Ian Clemens, Chief Technology Officer for IDV Solutions. “Global View will help ITU to visualize information and communication technologies to assist developing African countries with network and services implementation.”

The Global View visualization, maintained by ITU, will be open to all stakeholders and allows users to check status, identify gaps and avoid overlap in collaborative efforts to achieve the WSIS goals.
