IDV Solutions® helps the United Nations Humanitarian Information Centre Manage Disaster Relief in Myanmar
May 19, 2008
LANSING, MI — In the wake of devastation in Myanmar, IDV Solutions partnered with the United Nations Humanitarian Information Centre (HIC) and Microsoft to create the Myanmar Map Center to support disaster relief. This map-based, composite application, built on Visual Fusion Suite®, allows users to easily view satellite images, visualize disaster information and weather, and plot healthcare facilities in Myanmar on a Virtual Earth base map.
Using the Myanmar Map Center users can visualize satellite photos of flooding that resulted from the impact of Cyclone Nargis, as well as view the cyclones path in real-time. In addition to the information provided, users can load additional GeoRSS, WMS, and KML files into the application to cross reference HIC data with other sources.
“IDV Solutions is committed to helping organizations manage disaster relief and track aide with our Visual Fusion software,” said Ian Clemens, Chief Technology Officer for IDV Solutions. “Myanmar Map Center assists the United Nations and the HIC in the dissemination of information and situational understanding to improve the coordination of aide.”
IDV Solutions is dedicated to supporting humanitarian operations worldwide. To view the interactive map application, visit the Myanmar Map Center.
