Telling the Truth on Teacher - Now the teacher gets a report card too, thanks to new MS SQL based application.
October 12, 2005
Grand Ledge, MI. October 12, 2005- IDV Solutions launched a pilot version of a Education Performance Portal, which allows quick visual mining of school performance information. The application specifically monitors math and science performance metrics at a school, district and County level, and presents the information in an extremely visual, intuitive manner, using interactive maps as the primary querying tool. The Portal also uses dynamic data visualization as a means of reporting and analyzing the data.
The tool was built in collaboration with a local university initiative, which sets out to improve math and science scores for children in grades 1-12 by highlighting high performing schools, and analyzing what techniques and attributes contribute to higher scores, so that it can be emulated in other schools. The tool pulls data from multiple SQL databases, then visually overlays the data onto a map generated by MS MapPoint using IDV's patent pending product. The pilot project focuses on schools in Michigan and Ohio, but could apply to any state in the US, as all are under Federal scrutiny to shore up lagging math and science scores.
Ian Clemens, CTO of IDV Solutions stated, "I believe this educational performance analysis tool is an invaluable tool enabling schools and school districts to benchmark themselves against their peers, identify early signs of slippage, and apply remedial action."
Kevin Reid, speaking for Microsoft was excited about the broad appeal of the application, "The way that IDV creatively blended Microsoft SQL and MapPoint technologies to deliver a visualization tool for parents, teachers and the education community at large to access school performance metrics makes the data more accessible and comprehensible to its key audiences."
